Interoperability between INSPIRE, GEOSS, GMES, SEIS, SISE: opportunities for convergence and innovation

22 June 2010, 09:00 – 12:30, Sala Wystawowa I of the Auditorium Maximum, 33 Krupnicza Street, 31-123 Kraków, Poland

GIGAS (GEOSS, INSPIRE and GMES, an Action in Support) promotes the coherent and interoperable development of the GMES, INSPIRE and GEOSS initiatives through their concerted adoption of standards, protocols, and open architectures. The GIGAS partners have identified issues and developed recommendations related to interoperability between the three mentioned initiatives (http://www.thegigasforum.eu/forum/recommendations.html).

The Generic European Sustainable Information Space for environment (GENESIS) project is a cornerstone of the EC's ambition to create a single information space for Europe, and aims to deliver an integrated system in which environmental and health information can be accessed, analysed and acted upon. GENESIS has therefore a strong interest in establishing interoperability between INSPIRE, GEOSS, GMES, SEIS, and SISE, and has been using the GIGAS results to propose innovative solutions to identified obstacles.

This workshop, co-organized with the GIGAS and GENESIS partners, will bring together representatives of GEOSS, INSPIRE, GMES, and of EU (co)-funded projects. The meeting will take a closer look at the GIGAS work on catalogues and metadata, on data interoperability, and on data access and processing, and aims to identify opportunities for convergence and innovation.
